Jerusalem: The Israeli Prime Minister has extended an invitation to the new German Chancellor to visit Israel. According to the Prime Minister's office, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett spoke with new German Chancellor Olaf Scholz for the first time and offered him to visit Israel.
According to sources, the meeting took place on Tuesday, five days after Scholz was sworn in as Germany's new Chancellor, and comes as Israel tries to persuade world powers to end the nuclear talks with Iran.
"Bennett expressed gratitude to Scholz for his devotion to Israel and its security," according to the statement, which also stated that they addressed the need of preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
The two leaders commended "Israel's deep connections with Germany" and vowed to "maintain the nations' fruitful cooperation in a wide range of economic, diplomatic, and security fields."
