New Delhi: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced on Saturday that the Pragyan rover on the Moon has been put into a sleep mode, with hopes to awaken it in 14 days. The rover is equipped with two payloads, the Alpha Particle X-ray Spectrometer (APXS) and the Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscope (LIBS). These payloads, which transmit data to Earth via the lander, have been powered down.

The Rover completed its assignments.
It is now safely parked and set into Sleep mode.
APXS and LIBS payloads are turned off.
Data from these payloads is transmitted to the Earth via the Lander.
Currently, the battery is fully charged.
The solar panel is…
"The solar panel is oriented to receive the light at the next sunrise expected on September 22, 2023," ISRO stated in a post on X (formerly Twitter). If the Pragyan rover does not successfully wake up, it will remain on the Moon indefinitely, serving as India's lunar ambassador. The Pragyan rover and the Vikram lander had been working together to gather valuable scientific data. The APXS and LIBS payloads are designed to analyze the elemental and mineralogical composition of lunar soil and rocks.
Following the successful landing of the Vikram lander, the Pragyan rover began its mission on the Moon. It confirmed the presence of elements such as sulphur, iron, oxygen, and more on the lunar surface. The rover's journey of 100 meters showcases ISRO's capability in safe lunar landing and roving. Chandrayaan-3, which successfully landed on the Moon's surface on August 23, 2023, solidified India's position as the fourth country to achieve a soft lunar landing.
