Preparations for sending India's first manned mission 'Gaganyaan' into space have been intensified. 4 Indian Air Force pilots have been selected for the mission. Their ongoing training in Russia is about to end soon after this training in India is now to begin. On Thursday, the government said that the training of astronauts will start from May or June. The 'Gaganyaan' mission aims to send a 4-member team into space for 5 to 7 days in 2022 to mark the completion of 75 years of India's independence. PM Narendra Modi has announced the mission in his address to the nation on Independence Day in 2018. ISRO had started working on the scheme accordingly.

The mission has already been delayed due to the corona epidemic. But ISRO had planned the first unmanned flight in December 2020, the second in July 2021, and the first manned spacecraft mission in December 2021. However, the covid epidemic affected ISRO's plan and now the first unmanned flight will take place in December 2021 and the second flight in 2022-23 as per the new schedule. The first manned spacecraft to be sent after successful testing of the two by ISRO.

Currently, astronauts are taking training to adapt to the conditions of space in Russia where they are going to start space training like ice, water and steppe, parabolic flight, and astronavigation at Gagarin Cosmonaut training center. In the midst of the training in India, they are going to be told about India's crew modules and systems. The training will include crew modules from India and simulators of flight hardware and software.
