Srinagar: After the Congress-NC alliance emerged victorious in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections, National Conference (NC) leader Surinder Choudhary stated that the election was a battle between truth and falsehood rather than a contest between the BJP and NC.
Surinder Choudhary won the election in the Nowshera constituency, defeating BJP President Ravinder Raina by a margin of 7,819 votes. Speaking to the media, Choudhary emphasized, "This battle was not between PM Modi and Farooq Abdullah, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Farooq Abdullah, or between BJP and the National Conference. It was between the truth and the lie. It was between Ravinder Raina and Surinder Choudhary... It seemed like this election was not just between me and Ravinder Raina but between me and the whole civil administration here."
The Congress-NC alliance secured an absolute majority in the Union Territory, winning a total of 49 seats. The NC secured 42 seats, while the Congress took six.
Earlier, NC MP Ruhullah Mehdi asserted that the process of forming the government had already begun. "Everyone will come to know about the government formation within a day or two... The process for forming the government has begun," he told the media.
Meanwhile, JKNC Vice-President Omar Abdullah emphasized that, upon forming the government, a resolution should be passed to engage in talks with the union government to restore statehood for Jammu and Kashmir. "Once the government is formed, it should pass a resolution and then engage in talks with the Prime Minister, Home Minister, and other ministers in Delhi," he stated.
Omar Abdullah further assured that they would strive for harmonious cooperation with the Lieutenant Governor (LG) for the welfare of the people. "We do not seek major confrontation between the LG and the government. Instead, we aim for peaceful cooperation and to work for the people until we regain our rightful status as a state. We hope to restore statehood as soon as possible," he added.
Abdullah also noted that it was too early to determine the government's priorities, as the party leader and alliance leader had yet to be chosen by the representatives. He assured that the upcoming government would work for all citizens, including those who voted for the BJP and those who abstained from voting. "We are not the type to seek revenge on those who didn't vote for us. The upcoming government will represent the Congress, the National Conference, the BJP, and even those who abstained from voting. In Srinagar, only 20 percent voted—should we ignore the remaining 80 percent? They too deserve the benefits of governance. Similarly, the people of Jammu, who voted for the BJP, also have the right to benefit from the government," he concluded.
