The nationwide overnight curfew was imposed in Italy and tighter restrictions where followed in the country’s regions with high or facing surge in infections. Due to the surge in cases, hospitals risk running out of beds for COVID-19 patients as a part of the government’s recent attempt to control the rapid spread of the coronavirus.

The new rules will be effective from Thursday till December 3. The Regions to be hit with the strictest limits are to be announced Wednesday. New restrictions will be include for at least a two-week ban on entering or leaving the region's territory and closure of all shops except the shops selling basic commodities like food stores. A government official, who requested not to be identified in accordance with the policy said Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte signed off on the new restrictions overnight.
