WHO lets China to take responsibility in hunting the deadly Coronavirus origin

Michael Ryan, the World Health Organization’s emergency director, had said in mid-February that 'if we don't know the source then we are equally vulnerable in the future to a similar outbreak' atGeneva, when a World Health Organization team arrived in Beijing to study the outbreak and investigate a critical question: How did the virus jump from animals to humans? in a view to unlock clues about how to stop it, treat it and prevent similar outbreaks.

It's been nine months and almost 1.1 million died, but still there is still no transparent, independent investigation into the source of the virus. Since the beginning, the World Health Organization the only public health body with a global remit is indispensable and impotent on the virus source.  The second COVID-19 wave engulfs Europe and the United States, the WHO is in the middle of a geopolitical standoff. Chinese leaders want to constrain the organization whereas US President Donald Trump, who formally withdrew the U.S. from the WHO in July, seems to have an intent on destroying it and European leaders are scrambling to reform and empower it.

Few people agree that many cases were linked to the market in Wuhan, but a lot more scientists no longer believe it is where the outbreak began. Chinese officials points out at Europe as there were reports pointing the discovery of virus in sewage systems last year. But as the first infection was found at Wuhan the officials explained the need to study Wuhan market. The WHO study on virus is of two phases, one by reviewing hospital records and interviewing people who were treated for the virus in December. Chinese scientists with outsiders reviewing the work remotely will be involved in this work. In the next phase, international experts will work with Chinese experts to find the virus among animal hosts and most possible intermediate host. However, the dates are not finalized and the team is also not set yet.
