World's Largest populated country China begins its population census after COVID-19 crisis

China the most largest populated country in the World has begun its population census drive to find out the demographic changes after the battle of COVID-19. The country with 1.37 billion population in the last census in 2010 has involved about 7 million officials and volunteers door-to-door survey for the seventh census in the country and in a first, are using the mobile apps to help crunch the large numbers.

Ning Jizhe, deputy head of the National Development and Reform Commission, said, "Carrying out the census is critical to understand the population size, structure and distribution". Similar to India china is carrying out census once in every 10 years. This aims to determine the population growth, movement patterns. The Chinese government then uses the collected data to distribute resources for education, health, transportation, labour, elderly care and other essential services.

Last census taken in 2010, registered 1,33,97,24,852 which was reportedly an increase of 73,899,804 people (5.83%). The Chinese government's estimates 1.42 billion population in the 2020 census which will be a 5.99 per cent increase. China has implemented the one-child policy in the late 1970s to slow the population growth. But Chinese government allowed Sceond child from 2016 due to the fear of China's fast-ageing society and decreasing workforce.
