BRUSSELS: The Global economy needs to be derisked in this time of volatility and uncertainty while yet ensuring extremely responsible growth, said the External Affairs Minister (EAM)  Dr. S Jaishankar.

The EAM said that during the India-EU Trade and Technology Council (TTC) meeting, the two sides had spoken about trust and transparency in the digital space as well as resilient and trustworthy supply chains.

In fact, we today will have to focus on how to get the best out of a global talent pool in a knowledge economy, Dr. Jaishankar said adding that "during the course of the meeting one of our colleagues described this as a techade decade which is going to be shaped by technology."

The minister added that a concerted effort had been made to develop a reliable partnership in order to ensure that, despite the difficulties, globalisation would continue to be strong, that our economies would stay open, and that we would be able to advance in a variety of fields.

Three of our working groups met today. A stakeholders' meeting was held. The most crucial thing, in my opinion, was that we had a clear plan and calendar for how we were going to proceed, he added.

Earlier, Jaishankar stated that this inaugural TTC meeting is a crucial turning point in the strategic alliance between India and the European Union in his opening remarks.

"We are obviously key partners for each other but what the India-EU Trade and Technology Council represents is a focus on key domains that are critical to both the global economy and global security," he said.

"On strategic technologies, digital governance and connectivity; clean & green energy technologies; resilient value chains, our discussions were meaningful in all respects. Exchanged perspectives on economic security; cooperation in third countries including connectivity and derisking the global economy. Confident that this mechanism will further strengthen our strategic partnership," Dr. Jaishankar tweeted.
