Jaffna renovated by India,jointly inaugurated by Modi and Sirisena

Saturday;June 18, 2016: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena will today together offer to the people of Sri Lanka a renovated Duraiappah Stadium in Jaffna.

At the Jaffna stadium, Sirisena will be present and PM Modi later will join the event via videoconferencing from New Delhi.

India renovated the Jaffna stadium at a cost of above seven crore rupees.

The stadium has a seating capacity of 1,850 and will provide the necessary infrastructure to promote sports and recreational activities. It will also assist in overall development of the youth of the Northern Province in Sri Lanka. The stadium has not been in use since 1997.

Modi and Sirisena will also spectator the first major event at the renovated stadium, which is a celebration of the second International Yoga Day.
