Foreign Minister S Jaishankar on Sunday congratulated his newly appointed Afghan counterpart, Mohammad Hanif Atram, and said he looked forward to working closely with him to strengthen India-Afghanistan relations. Jaishankar tweeted that his heartfelt congratulations to my friend Hanif on his appointment as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan.
For your information, let us tell you that before assuming this post, Haneef served as National Security Advisor to the Ashraf Ghani Government and he resigned from his post in August 2018. He was also a candidate in last year's presidential election, but he withdrew his candidature before starting the campaign last summer.
He has also served as Minister of Rural Development and Rehabilitation, Education Minister and Minister of Internal Affairs. The same, the Ministry of External Affairs was earlier run by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammad Haroon Chakhansoori for policy. Also, as Hanif's appointment, Ghani reshuffled his cabinet and appointed new ministers, including men and women, from all ethnic groups in Afghanistan.
