Lucknow: Samajwadi Party's (SP) strongman Azam Khan will once again go to jail or his bail will continue, a decision is expected by this afternoon. Let us tell you that on October 27, the MP-MLA court sentenced Azam to three years in the hate speech case. The court convicted Azam Khan for his provocative speech during the 2017 Lok Sabha elections and also imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 on him.
However, shortly after the sentencing, Azam Khan was also granted bail. This bail was earlier till 16 November. Later its duration was extended to 22 November. There is to be a hearing in the court on Tuesday once again to continue the bail. At the same time, after Azam Khan was punished, he lost his membership of the Rampur assembly seat. An election is going to be held on this seat on 5 December 2022. This time the BJP has put all its strength to win this seat.
It may be mentioned that by-elections were also held on the Rampur Lok Sabha seat, which fell vacant after the resignation of Azam Khan in the month of June last. The BJP won that election. Since then their spirits are high. The bypoll will see a contest between 10 candidates, including BJP's Akash Saxena and Samajwadi Party's (SP) Asim Raja.
