The tradition of closed by former chief minister Vasundhara Raje. He has re-introduced the tradition and gave a dinner party to all the MLAs of the state. The dinner party included 150 MLAs including the family. In fact, in Rajasthan, for the past five decades, when the state budget was passed in the Assembly, the chief minister invited MLAs of all parties to dinner at his home, including the family. But Vasundhara Raje stopped the tradition after becoming chief minister.
According to media reports, now CM Ashok Gehlot has launched it once again. Gehlot's dinner party, which lasted till late Wednesday night, was attended by Congress as well as BJP MLAs. The BSP, cpi(M) and independent MLAs also attended the dinner party. Along with opposition leader Gulab Chand Kataria, the BSP and Independent MLAs supporting the government were invited by Gehlot himself to dinner.
In Karnataka and Goa, the BJP's activism has put the Congress in a cautious mode. While In Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Kamal Nath has started the exercise to keep the government afloat, Ashok Gehlot in Rajasthan is also in a defensive mode. For the past one month, Gehlot, who has been in constant touch with BSP and Independent MLAs, has started trying to build cordial relations with some OF the BJP MLAs who were once in the Congress and then changed the party to the BJP. In a changed political climate, the move is believed to be more part of the Dinner Diplomacy than Ashok Gehlot's tradition. The way some independents are trying to get in touch with the BJP. It is important for Ashok Gehlot to keep the opposition MLAs in place. In the state Assembly, BJP legislative party deputy leader Rajendra Rathore aired the threat to the Gehlot government by saying that he was in touch with some Congress MLAs.
