New Delhi: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar emphasized on Saturday that amid the ongoing border standoff with China, normalizing other relations should not be expected. Speaking on 'Bharat's Rise in Geopolitics' at an event, Jaishankar addressed questions from the audience, stating that solutions to complex situations do not come hastily in diplomacy. He highlighted that the India-China border is not mutually agreed upon, and the 2020 violation of troop movement agreements led to the Galwan incident.

Jaishankar conveyed to his Chinese counterpart that until a solution is found at the border, normalizing other relations is impossible. He emphasized the challenge of simultaneously engaging in trade and avoiding conflict. Addressing the recent rift with Maldives, Jaishankar expressed the importance of building strong connections, despite occasional political ups and downs.

Regarding India's bid for a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council, Jaishankar stated that the UN's relevance has diminished, and India's presence is crucial. He noted the limitations of the UN and the ongoing global support for India's permanent membership in the Security Council.

Responding to the trend of Indians settling abroad, Jaishankar acknowledged it as a personal choice. He emphasized the need to provide better employment opportunities within India. On achievements in foreign affairs, Jaishankar highlighted the positive shift in relations with the United States, improved ties with Australia, and strengthened connections with Gulf nations.

In conclusion, Jaishankar asserted that India's global standing is evolving, and strategic diplomatic efforts continue to shape the country's role on the international stage.
