New Delhi: The Delhi Police has challenged the Saket court's decision to acquit Sharjeel Imam in the Jamia violence case in the High Court. In fact, in the Jamia violence case, Delhi's Saket Court had acquitted 11 accused, including former JNU students Sharjeel Imam and Asif Iqbal Tanha. However, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) alumnus Sharjeel Imam continues to be in jail, facing trial under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for conspiracy in the February 2020 northeast Delhi riots.

Let us tell you that in December 2019, there were violent demonstrations against the CAA-NRC law in Jamia. During this, there was also a clash between the protesters and the police. After this violence broke out in the area. In this case, the Delhi Police had registered a case against Sharjeel Imam, Asif Iqbal Tanha, and others. The Saket court, while acquitting all the accused, had said that the line between dissenters and rioters cannot be blurred.

In fact, Sharjeel Imam's lawyer had claimed during the hearing that Sharjeel Imam had campaigned in support of the peaceful protest and not for violence. The court also accepted this argument. Now the Delhi Police has moved the High Court against this decision. It is believed that the Delhi Police may demand an early hearing from the High Court in this matter. Let us tell you that Congress leader and former Union Minister P Chidambaram also supported Sharjeel Imam recently. Let us tell you that Sharjeel Imam had given an inflammatory speech by gathering a Muslim crowd, although his lawyer says that he was supporting a peaceful demonstration. Here below we are giving some excerpts of Sharjeel Imam's speech, after reading which you can guess by yourself whether his speech was provocative and anti-national or not and whether should Congress support such a person.

What was the statement of Sharjeel Imam:-

Although the speech of Sharjeel Imam is very long, but here we are keeping that part in front of the readers, in which provocative and detrimental things have been said about the integrity of the country. In the anti-CAA program, Sharjeel had said that 'the time has come for us to tell non-Muslims that if they are our sympathizers, then they should come and stand on our terms. If they do not stand on our terms then they are not our sympathizers. If 5 lakh people are organized with us, then we can separate the Northeast from India permanently. If not permanently, then at least for a one-half month, Assam can be cut off from India. You can also watch its video on YouTube.
