Jammu: A number of cases have been reported from the country day in and day out. In this connection, a police officer said, security forces had launched a cordon and search operation at Kulgam in Ranipora area after receiving a report of the presence of terrorists.

The terrorists opened fire on the security forces while they were conducting searches in the area. The police officer said that the security forces retaliated after which firing took place from both sides. Two terrorists were killed due to this. He said, the identity of the slain terrorists and the terror group they belong to is being ascertained.

With this, an encounter took place between security forces and terrorists in Kulgam district last day. Security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in Redwani area of Kulgam district on Thursday night after receiving intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists. The operation was converted into an encounter when terrorists opened fire on security forces. In South Kashmir, five encounters have taken place in the last three days in which seven terrorists have been eliminated.
