20 leaders detained before DDC election results, Mehbooba Mufti targets BJP

Srinagar: The counting of votes in 280 seats of District Development Council (DDC) in Jammu and Kashmir has started from 9 am on Tuesday. There are 2178 candidates in the fray in this election. A day before the counting of the DDC election, on Monday, officials have taken at least 20 leaders into custody as a precautionary measure. It also includes three senior officials of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).

The PDP supremo and former Jammu and Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti termed the detention of his party leaders as 'Gunda Raj' and accused the BJP of conspiring to 'tamper with the election results'. The officials said that the administration has detained 20 leaders during the day as a precaution, including PDP's Sartaj Madani, Mansoor Hussain and Naeem Akhtar.

Officials said that similar steps are being taken against mainstream leaders in other districts of Kashmir Valley. Former Jammu and Kashmir CM Mehbooba Mufti said in a tweet, 'The law is being completely dismantled and PDP's Sartaj Madni, Mansoor Hussain was arbitrarily detained today on the eve of the DDC election results.'
