Srinagar: The voting for the first phase of the District Development Council (DDC) elections is going on in Jammu and Kashmir today. According to media reports, till 11 am, polling in the entire Jammu and Kashmir has been recorded at 22.12%. In these elections, several mainstream parties of Jammu and Kashmir like National Conference, PDP and secret alliance are also in the field.

The Gupkar coalition has come into existence with a demand to restore the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. It is being told that in these elections, there can be a triangular contest between the alliance, BJP and former Finance Minister Altaf Bukhari's 'Apni Party'. Officials have told that voting has started from seven in the morning. Initially, due to cold weather, few people reached the polling booth. According to Mohit Kandhari, a large number of people are reaching out to use their franchise after the end of the day. Long queues of voters were seen in the hilly areas of Kashmir Division and Jammu Division even after the bitter cold.

After the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir, the first elections to be held here are to elect members for the District Development Council who will form the local government in a way.
