Jammu: The 270 km long Jammu and Kashmir highway has been closed for 3 days due to the fall of rocks between Ramban and Banihal due to torrential rains and 4 lane extension work of the highway in Jammu and Kashmir. Traffic on the highway has come to a standstill due to the road closure. Long queues of trains have started in many places. Due to this problem, thousands of people going to the valley and coming from there are trapped in Udhampur, Ramban, Banihal, and Qazigund.

In many places, the passengers have to travel their own way on foot. Along with the passengers, truck drivers carrying essential supplies to the Kashmir Valley are also worried. The administration is trying to provide relief to the stalled passengers. Engineers and machines of the National Highway Authority are engaged on a war footing to open the highway. The ban on vehicles going to the valley at Jakhaini Chowk from Wednesday morning continued throughout the day on Thursday.

No vehicle was allowed from the police to go beyond Zakhaini Chowk. Passengers in stranded vehicles remained distressed throughout the day due to the closure of the highway and waited for the highway to open.
