Srinagar: Security forces are engaged in eliminating terrorists in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. In the same episode, one terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces in South Kashmir's Shopian district. Police have informed in this regard on Thursday. On Wednesday night, terrorist Anayat Ashraf Dar opened fire on a civilian, Jiwar Hamid Bhat, who was seriously injured admitted to a hospital. Dar was earlier an overground worker (OGW) of the terrorists.
Police said, 'Anayat also used to threaten his village and others around him with illegally acquired weapons. After intensive interrogation of several suspects and input from sources, a campaign was launched in Keshava village. He opened fire on the joint search team after being surrounded.'
Police said, "All civilians were evacuated in houses around the targeted area. He was asked to surrender, but he refused.'' Later, during the encounter, the said new active terrorist was dumped. Police said a pistol and ammunition were also recovered from him.
