Srinagar: Two militants were killed in an encounter between security forces and militants on Sunday in the higher reaches of Surankote in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, while one was arrested. Officials gave this information. Officials said that the terrorists are believed to have crossed the Line of Control (LoC) into Indian territory about three days ago. They were going towards the Shopian district of South Kashmir when they were surrounded by them near the Mughal road in the afternoon.
Officials said it was a joint group of Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed militants and was sent to India to influence the District Development Council (DDC) elections. Officials said that with the help of the army, the police conducted a joint search operation in the remote Chhatapani-Dogran village after getting information about the hiding of three suspected terrorists.
He said the militants were trapped in the snow-bound area and were asked to surrender, but they refused to surrender and instead fired indiscriminately at security forces in an attempt to break the siege. Security forces retaliated and killed two terrorists.
