Srinagar: Public life has been disrupted due to the strike called in Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, on the anniversary of the hanging of terrorist Afzal Guru, who was guilty of the horrific attack on the country's Parliament in 2001. Shops and business establishments remained closed in the summer capital Srinagar and people were seen missing from the streets.

In view of any problem related to law and order in the city, additional security forces were deployed. Security forces set up blocks in civil lines and also checked vehicles. Due to the closure of all the shops and other business establishments in the vicinity, the historic Jamia Masjid in the old area of Srinagar was covered with desert. Two main gates of the historic mosque were closed and armored security forces deployed outside them.

Trade and other activities were also closed in Nallamar, Zaina Kadal, Nava Kadal, and other areas. Traffic remained off the roads, although some private and three-wheelers were seen. Similar scenes were seen in Civil Lines including the historic center of the city, Lal Chowk. Security forces had erected a barrier at Lal Chowk where private vehicles and three-wheelers were being checked. Almost the same situation remained in the new city, although some shops of vegetables and milk-bread remained open.
