Jumping into the electoral battle for the first time, Telugu actor and Jana Sena Party Chief Pawan Kalyan has finally decided to contest from two constituencies in the April 11 Assembly polls in Andhra Pradesh. A party statement says that Pawan would be contesting from Bheemavaram in West Godavari district and Gajuwaka in Visakhapatnam district. Pawan appears to be following the footsteps of his elder brother and superstar K Chiranjeevi.

Former IPS officer VV Lakshmi Narayana, who joined the party two days ago, will be the candidate from Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha seat. After an intensive survey in various constituencies, the party general body chose these seats for Kalyan and he has agreed to contest from there, a Jana Sena release said Tuesday. When Chiranjeevi floated Praja Rajyam in 2009 elections, he contested from Palakollu in West Godavari and Tirupati in Chittoor and won only from Tirupati. PRP had won 18 seats but later it had merged with the Congress.

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) will contest 21 seats out of the 175 seats in the state Assembly, while the Communist Party of India (CPI) and CPM will contest on seven seats each. The remaining 140 seats will be fought by the Jana Sena Party. In the Gajuwaka constituency, Pawan would be facing sitting MLA Palla Srinivas Rao of the TDP and YSR Congress Party contestant Tippala Nagi Reddy in an interesting triangular contest. Meanwhile, the Jana Sena decided that former Joint Director of the CBI VV Laxminarayana would contest the Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha constituency.
