New Delhi, India: In his first visit to India since taking office and also in the midst of the ongoing Ukrainian crisis, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida will attend the 14th India-Japan Annual Summit in addition to holding bilateral meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his two-day stay in New Delhi.

The last India-Japan Annual Summit took place in October 2018 in Tokyo.

Kishida's visit to India takes on added significance as western countries impose sanctions on Russia for its military action in Ukraine and the major oil-consuming countries closely monitor the Ukrainian crisis's impact on oil prices. Within the framework of their "Special Strategic and Global Partnership," India and Japan enjoy a multifaceted partnership.

The Summit will allow both parties to assess and strengthen bilateral cooperation in a variety of areas, as well as exchange perspectives on regional and global problems of mutual concern, in order to promote their partnership for peace, stability, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.

PM Modi earleir spoke on the phone with PM Kishida in October 2021, just after the Japanese Prime Minister assumed office. Both parties indicated a desire to continue strengthening their "Special Strategic and Global Partnership."
