Today is the 75th birthday anniversary of former actor and Tamil Nadu CM Jayaram Jayalalithaa.Commonly referred to as "Jayalalithaa", Jayalalithaa Jayaram was born on February 24, 1948. 

Jayalalithaa was the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and she served as the Chief Minister of the state four other times, from 1991 to 1996, 2001, 2002 to 2006, and 2011 to 2014. She became the 10th, 12th, 14th, 16th and 18th Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

Jayalalithaa was popularly known as ‘Amma’ and was also a leader of masses. Her demise on 5th December, 2016 shocked the entire nation. Jayalalithaa served as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu six times over a period of 14 years.
Jayalalithaa used to take just Rs. 1 as salary during her terms as Chief Minister. She refused her first salary cheque as the Chief Minister and said, “abundant source of income and she does not need a salary.” 

On being said that she has to receive a salary as public servant, she determiend to take Rs.1/- as her monthly salary. During her acting career, Jayalalithaa did more than 85 Tamil movies and one Hindi movie, ‘Izzat’. She was casted opposite Dharmendra in ‘Izzat’, which was also a hit.

Another amazing fact about her is in 1995, during her first term as Chief Minister, she organised a lavish wedding for her ‘foster son’ Sudhagaran. As per Guinness record, over 1,50,000 guests were invited to the wedding at a 50-acre ground in Chennai.

Jayalalithaa's father died when she was two years old. Her mother moved to Bangalore  where she began working as an actress in Tamil cinema

She was awarded the Gold State Award for coming first in the 10th standard in Tamil Nadu

Jayalalithaa started working in films when she was 15 years old

In 1982, she joined the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), which was founded by Ramachandran
Jayalalithaa's name refelcts in the Guinness Book of World Records for hosting the largest wedding banquet with over 1,50,000 guests invited to the wedding of her foster son Sudhakaran. In 1972, she was awarded the Kalaimamani by the Government of Tamil Nadu.
