JD Vance, the Republican vice presidential nominee, will embark on his first solo campaign events on Monday, marking a significant step in his bid for the 2024 election. This move comes shortly after President Joe Biden announced his withdrawal from the race, leaving the Democratic nomination open. Vance, currently an Ohio senator, is set to hold rallies in his hometown of Middletown, Ohio, and in Radford, Virginia.

Initially, Vance was expected to compete against Vice President Kamala Harris. However, with Biden's departure and the Democratic ticket still undecided, Vance has shifted his focus to attacking both Biden and Harris. “President Trump and I are ready to save America, regardless of who ends up leading the Democrat ticket,” Vance stated on social media.

Vance aims to connect with voters in the Rust Belt by highlighting his blue-collar background. His rally locations and populist messaging are designed to build momentum in critical states such as Michigan, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania.

The Democratic Party now faces a scramble to select a new candidate at their convention in Chicago, scheduled for August 19.

Vice President Harris, who made history as the first Black and South Asian woman to hold the office, has praised Biden for his “selfless and patriotic act” and is committed to “earning and winning” the nomination.

Former President Barack Obama, a significant figure in the Democratic Party, has cautioned that the situation represents “uncharted waters” for the party.

Biden's decision to exit follows a period of isolation due to a Covid infection, with limited consultations from family and aides at his Rehoboth Beach home. First Lady Jill Biden responded to the announcement by simply sharing his statement with supportive emojis.

In response to Biden's departure, Trump’s new running mate, JD Vance, emphasized Harris's alignment with Biden, whom he labeled as “the worst president in my lifetime.”

Biden's exit concludes a turbulent chapter in the US election cycle, marked by Trump's survival of an assassination attempt on July 13 and intense Democratic infighting over Biden's future. Biden is the first sitting president to withdraw so late in the election cycle.
