It is being told that earlier these exams were conducted in regional languages only in Hindi, English and Gujarati languages. Then West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee objected to the examination being held only in Gujarati and demanded from the Center that examinations could be conducted in other regional languages including Bangla. After this, the Central Government had earlier said that at present, it would add Marathi and Telugu languages based on the maximum number of candidates. But now it has been decided that in addition to Hindi and English, a total of nine regional languages will be added, including Bangla. These changes will be applicable from the academic session 2021 examination. Presently, the examination of session 2020 can be taken in Hindi, English, and Gujarati only.
