Jenin gunbattle: Israeli raid in the West Bank results in 3 Palestinian deaths and 29 other injuries

Jerusalem: During a fierce clash in the occupied West Bank on Monday, Israeli commandos supported by a military helicopter killed three Palestinians, including a teenager, and injured at least 29 others, according to local gunmen and medical officials.

According to the Israeli military, the raid on Jenin was carried out to apprehend Palestinians suspected of carrying out attacks. During the firefight with the gunmen, several of the gunmen were wounded.

As shots are fired, an explosion can be seen engulfing an armoured troop carrier in video obtained by Reuters. In another video, a missile appeared to be launched by what appeared to be an Israeli helicopter.

A helicopter had fired during the conflict, and one of its vehicles had been hit by a blast, according to the military statement. It did not immediately respond to media reports that the latter incident injured five soldiers.

According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, one of the three dead men was 15 years old. Whether any of them were connected to Palestinian armed groups was unknown at the time.

In Jenin, one of the northern West Bank communities where Israel has increased raids over the past 15 months due to a wave of Palestinian street attacks in its cities, one of these groups, Islamic Jihad, claimed it was taking part in the clashes.

Witnesses in Jenin claimed that during the raid on Monday, at least one Palestinian was detained.
