BHOPAL: Shocking developments unfolded in Jhabua district as a Sub-divisional Magistrate (SDM) was apprehended on Tuesday under serious allegations of sexually harassing a young tribal student residing in a government-run hostel.
According to official reports, the distressing incident transpired during an inspection visit by SDM Sunil Jha. The victim, a minor who calls the government-run hostel her home, bravely reported that she had been subjected to inappropriate advances by the accused.
Upon receiving the victim's complaint, the hostel authorities promptly informed the district police, ensuring that justice would be pursued.
The First Information Report (FIR) reveals the grave nature of the accused's actions, alleging that he not only touched and kissed the minor girl but also communicated with her in an indecent manner.
Acting upon the minor's complaint, the police arrested SDM Jha, invoking charges under the SC/ST Atrocity Act, POCSO Act, and Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and Section 354 4 (sexual harassment) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Following his arrest, the accused was presented before the district court on Tuesday and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
Taking swift and decisive action, Indore divisional commissioner Pawan Kumar Sharma has suspended SDM Jha, a deputy collector with significant authority and responsibilities.
