Jharkhand Naxalite attack: 11 security personnel injured in the blast

Eleven security personnel were injured in an IED blast detonated by Maoist Guerrillas on early Tuesday, police said. The attack took place around 4:53 am on Tuesday in Kuchai area of Saraikela in Jharkhand on teams of 209 CoBRA and Jharkhand police, injuring 8 CoBRA personnel and 3 of the Jharkhand police.

According to police, the security personnel were on Long Range Patrolling (LRP) when IED blast hit the vehicle. After detonating IED blast, Maoist Guerrillas started firing. The security personnel also retaliated the Maoist firing. According to officials, the improvised explosive device (IED) is suspected to have been buried under the dirt track. 

A rescue chopper was sent from Ranchi. The injured personnel were airlifted to Ranchi. The attack comes close on heels of a massive attack on May 1 where as many as 15 policemen and a civilian driver were killed in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli after their bus was blown up using an improvised explosive device (IED) set up by Maoists. An investigation is underway.
