Dalit privileges activist Jignesh Mevani has put a stop to all whisper about his tacit support to Congress today by declaring his independent candidature from Banaskantha.

Jignesh Mevani will file his nomination from Banaskantha's Vadgam seat for the Gujarat Assembly polls. Fascinatingly, Congress is yet to declare a candidate from Vadgam.

In an exclusive interview with India Today earlier, Mevani had firmly denied for finding the middle ground with the Congress for fielding candidates in the Gujarat Assembly election.

"We would rather field our candidates on our own instead of using Congress party symbol," Jignesh Mevani asserted

Mevani, in a bid to remove a saffron party from power BJP's hegemony in Gujarat like P a tidar-quota activist Hardik Patel and OBC leader Alpesh Thakor, was long believed to be toying with the idea of joining together with the Congress.

But his exclusive talk with India Today TV reveals his new tactics.

"We want to defeat the 22 years of BJP rule. But we are not give support to Congress either... people of Gujarat are smart enough to choose whom to cast their vote to. We don't have to advise them." Jignesh had made clear.

Put a ceiling on saffron brigade's seats this time, the Dalit leader spoke, "The BJP and RSS must be beaten in 2019. So, it is significant to overpower them in Gujarat Assembly polls."
