New Delhi: An open letter has been written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi by 25 scholars from different universities across the country, in which they have mentioned the Jihadi education being given in some universities of the country. It is written in the letter that, 'Modi Ji... We would like to bring to your notice that Jihadi Islamic courses are being run in some departments of Government funded Islamic Universities like Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Jamia Millia Islamia and Jamia Hamdard University. The result of such studies is that Hindu society and civilization are being attacked continuously.'

He further wrote in the letter, 'Our premier Islamic university, is calling such jihadist ideas just and respected. Especially when some prominent Muslim leaders have openly declared that they want to completely Islamize India by 2047 after the partition of the country. These universities are running at government expense and we are the taxpayers. Therefore, as concerned citizens, we have the right to demand that such studies be stopped. It is a matter of security of the country.' After this letter was written to PM Modi, AMU has taken immediate action on this matter. Now the names of Sayyid Qutb and Abul Ala al-Maudoodi will not appear in AMU. Neither will his books be taught. The reason for this is that in the letter written to PM Modi, objection has been raised to the teaching of the ideology of these two Islamic writers. Officials said that Sayyid Qutb,

PRO Shafe Kidwai of Aligarh Muslim University has informed that 'Sayyid Qutb and Abul Ala Al-Maududi... The content of both of these is being removed from the syllabus. The necessary procedure will be followed for this. To avoid any kind of controversy in the university, it has been decided to remove these parts from the syllabus. Circumstances have changed. What was worth teaching years ago may not be worth teaching today.

Let us tell you that among those who wrote an open letter to PM Modi, professors from IISc Bangalore to the London School of Economics are also included. Professor Madhu Kishwar, Senior Fellow, Nehru Memorial Museum and Library (NMML) has also shared this letter on his Twitter handle.
