New Delhi:  Jindal Steel & Power (JSP) announced plans to open a state-of-the-art, 1.2 MTPA rail and heavy structure mill at its Angul Steel complex in Odisha. JSP's overall capacity for producing rail will be 2.2 MTPA with the completion of the new mill, according to the firm.

According to a statement issued by Jindal Steel and Power on Thursday, JSP has created specialist rails including 1175 HT, R350 HT, Asymmetric Rails, and 1080HH rails at its current 1 MTPA rail factory in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh. These rails, an import substitute item needed for axle loads greater than 25 MT, are heavy. The bullet train project, high-speed corridors, and other metro rail companies predominantly use these lines.

The dedicated goods corridor company (DFCC), Indian Railways, and other vital projects of national significance regularly receive 260 m rails from the Raigarh Rail mill. The use of such lengthy rails with few welds is essential for improving track, safety, and comfort.

Nearly all of India's Metro and Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) lines use JSP's specialised rails of 1080 HH grade. The USBRL Project (Jammu & Kashmir) and the Sivok-Rangpo Project in West Bengal are two examples of special projects of national civil-military importance that utilise such railways for remote connectivity in challenging terrain.
"JSP is committed to assisting the government's Gati Shakt Yojna programs, which are a part of the Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, by making products made domestically that serve as import substitutes available at affordable costs. To support the modernization of the Indian rail network, JSP is proactively expanding and increasing its rail-manufacturing capacity, according to a statement from Bimlendra Jha, managing director of Jindal Steel & Power. Even though India has excess rail capacity, he continued, "We will be looking to feed markets abroad as well after meeting India's requirements."

JSP claimed to have successfully developed 60E1 1175 Heat Treated (HT) rails suitable for high speed and high axle load applications to aid in the development of a future-proof national rail infrastructure. Indian Railways has started updating its track network so that it can support speeds of up to 200 km/h and axle loads greater than 25 MT.

JSP claimed that it also exports "Made in India" railways to numerous other nations. JSP has established itself as a top-tier rail producer by providing specialised rail blooms to the European railways, it said.
