Srinagar: The second phase of voting is going on for the DDC election in Jammu and Kashmir. Meanwhile, big information has been revealed. Refugees from Pakistan have also been given the right to vote in this election. In the first-ever DDC election, the West Pakistani refugees got an opportunity to vote.

In the second phase of the DDC election in Jammu today, nearly one lakh western Pakistani refugees living in Jammu also exercised their franchise. This is the first time in the last 70 years after the removal of Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir when these refugees are voting in an election. Till now, they had the right to vote only in the Lok Sabha elections. After becoming a union territory, this is the first time when these people are voting in the DDC elections.

According to Western Pakistani refugee leader Labha Aram Gandhi, today is Diwali for them. Labha Ram Gandhi said that his ancestors had decided to leave Pakistan and settle in India during the Partition of India-Pakistan in 1947 and since then they had not got citizenship in Jammu. These people could neither take government jobs in Jammu nor vote in any election in the state.
