JAMMU: Farooq Abdullah, the former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, demanded that the Vivek Agnihotri-directed film 'The Kashmir Files' be banned, claiming that it had instilled "hate in the country." He also branded the film "baseless," claiming that the incidents depicted in it were all made up.

The comments came a day after leaders of the People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration, including Abdullah and PDP head Mehbooba Mufti, met with LG Manoj Sinha to discuss recent violent incidents in the Valley.

"LG Manoj Sinha was introduced to us. The point was that the law and order situation in this town is awful. People are slain on a daily basis while visitors are visiting the Valley "While speaking to media here, he said.

"If we are to get closer, we must put an end to the animosity.  In 'The Kashmir Files,' a Muslim kills a Hindu, then rinses the rice in his blood and tells his wife to eat it? This is a false film that has instilled hostility not only in the country but also among the youth of the valley who are concerned about how they are perceived "Abdullah continued.

Manoj Sinha, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, announced on Sunday that security would be increased in the Valley's residential regions for government Kashmiri Pandit personnel, as well as an investigation into the tear gas shelling event against them during the protest.
