New Delhi: John Barla has been appointed minister of state for minority affairs in the Modi cabinet. BJP MP from Alipurduar John Barla's tales is amazing and inspiring. John, who worked as a laborer in the tea garden until a few years ago, is today adorned as a minister in the Central government.

Born in a normal family, John Barla's father's name is Thomas Barla. John Barla is a resident of Banarhat Laxmipara tea garden in Jalpaiguri district. John studied at Mahavir Hindi High School till class 8, who had to drop out due to poverty and work in a tea garden. Until 2007, John worked as a temporary driver in a tea garden. He was paid as a daily wage laborer, but John, who was interested in politics, joined the anti-Gorkhaland movement in 2007. Gradually, john Adivasi society began to emerge in the entire Durs area.

It was then that John Barla was made chairman of the Terai Durs Coordination Committee by the Tribal Development Council. John then joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in 2014. John Barla won the 2019 Lok Sabha elections at Alipurduar and today the Modi government has inducted him into his cabinet.
