Today is the birth anniversary of K. Kamaraj, who was the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu three times. On this day, he was born in 1903 in Virdunagar. He is called Gandhian and is remembered in Indian politics for a number of reasons. Kamaraj held the post of Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu 3 times, had said goodbye to this world in 1975 at the age of 72. He was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna.

Kamaraj's name is mentioned many times in the politics of independent India. Kamaraj's name is the reason for Lal Bahadur Shastri and Indira Gandhi to become Prime Minister. At the age of 15, he joined the freedom movement due to the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Since childhood, he had the passion to do something for the country. At the age of 18, he joined the non-cooperation movement of Mahatma Gandhi. In the year 1930, he participated in the Salt Satyagraha and at the age of 27, he went to jail for the first time. The British rule sent him to jail 6 times. During this, he spent a total of 3000 days in jail.

At the age of 51, in 1954, Kamaraj became the CM of Madras. He also contributed to the education sector. As Chief Minister, he started a campaign to open primary schools in every village and high school in every panchayat. Kamaraj implemented the scheme of free and compulsory education till 11th. This was the first time in independent India when the Mid Day Meal started and it was started by K. Kamaraj. He said on this that millions of poor children of the state could get enough food at least once in a day.
