Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh's main opposition party Samajwadi Party (SP) has nominated Dr. Kafeel Khan as MLC (Legislative Councilor) candidate from Deoria-Kushinagar seat. Recently, Kafeel Khan also met party chief and former CM Akhilesh Yadav. Dr Kafeel Khan, who was nominated by the SP in the UP Legislative Council elections 2022, had landed in controversy after the death of children in Gorakhpur's BRD hospital due to lack of oxygen. Kafeel Khan's name was announced after meeting the SP chief on Tuesday (March 15, 2022). During this, he also presented his book written on the Gorakhpur oxygen incident to the SP chief. Let us inform that after his name came up in the death of children, the UP government had suspended him. He can file his nomination on Wednesday.

The nomination process for 36 seats in the local authority area in the UP Legislative Council has started from March 15. Nominations for 30 seats are to be filled by March 19, while the process of nomination for 6 seats will continue till March 22. The voting date for all the 36 seats has been fixed on April 9. The results will be declared after the vote counting on April 12. It is the effort of BJP and SP that their candidates win maximum number of seats. Let us inform that the SP has 48 seats in the Legislative Council, while the BJP has 36 MLCs. However, 8 MLCs of SP have already switched to BJP. BJP aims to get majority in the upper house of UP by getting more seats.

Explain that for the seats of the local body, the elected members of the MP, Urban Bodies, MLA, Cantt Board, members of the District Panchayat and Kshetra Panchayats as well as the village head vote. There are speculations that with the help of Dr Kafeel Khan, SP wants to attract Muslims. Let us inform that in August 2017, the case of death of more than 60 children due to lack of oxygen in Gorakhpur's 'Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Hospital' came to light. In this case, a committee was formed to investigate the allegations against Dr. Kafeel Khan. Dr Kafeel Khan was accused of corruption and negligence. Dr Kafeel Khan has also gone to jail in this case. He was also very active in the protests against CAA and NRC and was also seen in demonstrations like Shaheen Bagh. He was also accused of doing private practice other than a government job.
