Kamala Harris’s fundraising event on Zoom made headlines this Thursday by shattering attendance records and collecting over $1.8 million for her presidential campaign. The virtual event drew more than 100,000 supporters, including high-profile celebrities like singer Pink and actress Connie Britton.
The overwhelming response caused some technical difficulties, with the Zoom call experiencing interruptions as the donation link quickly reached its capacity. Despite these issues, the enthusiasm remained undeterred.
Connie Britton, known for her role in "Friday Night Lights," expressed her excitement about Harris’s campaign. “When President Biden endorsed Kamala Harris, it felt like a seismic shift,” Britton said. “It was bigger than anything we've seen in a long time.”
Singer Pink, who joined the fundraiser immediately after a concert in Stockholm, Sweden, praised Harris’s growing support. “We are making our voices heard more than ever,” Pink declared. “Now is the time to get even louder and make a difference.”
The fundraiser was also bolstered by a significant contribution from Carol Leif, a comedian and writer, who pledged $50,000 to kick off the event. Her donation was swiftly matched by others.
Anti-gun advocate Shannon Watts also spoke at the event, urging attendees to vote with their safety and freedom in mind. “Vote like your safety and your freedom depend on it,” Watts emphasized.
This fundraiser marks Harris’s third major Zoom event, following two previous successful calls. The first, held on Sunday, attracted a record 44,000 Black women, while the second gathered 50,000 Black men, including Georgia Senator Raphael Warnock, raising $1.3 million.
Thursday’s event specifically featured white women, with plans for a more inclusive Zoom call scheduled for this Sunday, as noted by organizer Elizabeth Minnella.
According to OpenSecrets, Harris had already raised an impressive $100 million within the first 36 hours of her campaign.
