With Vice President Kamala Harris nearing the end of her term, speculation grows about her future in politics. After a challenging election loss to Republican candidate Donald Trump, Harris affirmed her dedication to the ongoing political struggle, though it remains unclear if this includes a bid for the presidency in 2028.

As Harris prepares to step down in just a few months, she has not yet revealed her plans. Harris, who began her career as San Francisco’s district attorney in 2003, is contemplating a return to private life after decades in public service. However, her supporters and close allies, including California's Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, expect clarity on her next steps soon.

Harris has faced criticism, with some questioning her candidacy as a "selected" rather than "elected" choice, due to President Biden's decision to exit the race mid-campaign. This has led to uncertainty about her backing within the Democratic Party for a 2028 run, especially after Trump’s strong electoral comeback.

Yet, if Trump's next term mirrors the challenges of his first, Harris may find renewed support among her donors and allies. She has previously warned that a tumultuous Trump administration could present risks to the nation's institutions, a view shared by many of her supporters.

In her concession speech, Harris encouraged continued resistance, asserting that the fight would persist "in the voting booth, in the courts, and in the public square." She acknowledged the challenges but expressed confidence in eventual success.

President Biden also commended Harris, highlighting her resilience and commitment to the American people. He said she will remain a figure for future generations to admire and a leader who stands for justice and equality.

As the first woman to serve as vice president, Harris has already made history, building on the legacy of Democratic trailblazers like Hillary Clinton. While Clinton won the popular vote in 2016 but lost the electoral vote to Trump, Harris’s future remains open-ended, leaving supporters eager to see if she will once again seek the nation’s highest office.
