Ujjain: Today the whole country is paying homage to the heroes of Kargil Vijay Diwas. Ujjain of Madhya Pradesh also has a deep connection with this bravery. During the war, Balram Joshi, the brave son of Ujjain, also sacrificed his life laughing while fighting the Pakistani army. He was martyred on 11 July 2000 from a rocket launcher released from Pakistan early in the morning after firing from both the borders at the Nal post of Jammu and Kashmir overnight. During this time Balram Joshi, 163rd Battalion of Border Security Force (BSF) was posted as sub-inspector in BSF MY Bangalore Post Rajouri Jammu and Kashmir, then Balram was only 26 years old.

According to Martyr Balram's family Pt. Rajesh Joshi, this son of the city was martyred while protecting Mother India while fighting the enemies at Nal Chowki, 50 km from Poonch Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir. Seeing his body wrapped in tricolour, every Indian was filled with bravery, but could not stop the tears from their eyes. Balram's father Radheshyam Joshi, who retired from the forest department, and his mother Sarju Devi had passed away. Balaram was the only son of the family, now he has three sisters in the family. The outpost where Balram Joshi was posted was far away. Had to walk several kilometres to reach there. The border of Pakistan was around this post. Being in the higher part of Pakistan, Indian soldiers used to have a lot of problems with counter-attacking. During the war, Balram used to tell all these things in conversation. Before martyrdom, he had sent 8 infiltrators to hell.

The family members got information about the martyrdom of Amar Shaheed Balram Joshi through telegram. Which was sent jointly by BSF and Jammu and Kashmir Police. The family was inconsolable when the news of Balram Joshi's martyrdom was heard, but in this martyrdom, the townspeople also joined the grief of the family members of the martyr and kept the whole city closed for 2 days and on July 13, when the body of the immortal martyr Balram Joshi When he reached Ujjain, the queue of those paying tribute at his Bahadurganj residence had reached Madhav College. A statue of the immortal Balram Joshi has been installed at Shaheed Park in the Freeganj area, where residents pay homage to him on his birthday and death anniversary. Even today, three elder sisters of Balaram tie rakhi on that statue and remember their brave brother.
