With just four days left for the 44th edition of the Chess Olympiad to begin, a test competition has been held in Chennai on Sunday to take stock of the preparations. Before this prestigious competition, a special race of the Olympiad was held in the city on Sunday in which several thousand people participated.

Ministers of State like MA Subramaniam, TM Anbarasan and PK Shekhar Babu had also joined the competition. According to media reports, 1,414 players also participated in the competition held in different age groups. The organisers claimed that they are also trying to join the Nobel Book of World Records by organizing a trial competition with 1,414 players.

The Chess Olympiad is going to be held in India for the first time. Not only that, players from more than 180 countries are going to participate in the Olympiad. India is going to field three teams each in both the Open and women's categories. PM Narendra Modi will inaugurate the competition in the presence of Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin on July 28 at the Nehru Indoor Stadium here. The matches will be played from July 29, which is scheduled to run till August 10.
