The state Health Minister B Sriramulu and the COVID 19 technical committee experts had a meeting yesterday at Bengaluru to discuss the reopening of schools yielded no results but decided to prepare a report on reopening of schools. MK Sudarshan, the chairperson of the COVID-19 technical advisory committee said they will discuss the reopening on Friday. Parental fear is the main and foremost hindering factor to decide. Decision-makers give high priority to the ‘Parental fear’ and on the other side, schools has to agree to work closely with pediatricians to ensure safety.

Health minister B Sriramulu said the pros and cons will be discussed before making the decision as it involves children's safety. The experts have put forth the models followed in Sweden where the schools are operating in full phase amid the pandemic. Dr. US Vishal Rao, Oncologist and a member of the COVID-19 expert committee, said Sweden and Karnataka's situations are different and can’t be compared. Another expert in the committee said the population density of Sweden and Karnataka are different, living conditions and behavioral adaptation are not the same. Dr Rao added there is no proper ‘Yes or No’ about the reopening of schools.

One more specialist mentioned the complications of COVID-19 positive kids who have suffered from Kawasaki a febrile illness with inflammation of the mouth, further leading to cardiac complications, multisystem inflammatory syndrome temporarily associated with COVID. The counseling of Parents, pediatric involvement, children psychologists is the most essential thing. “Both Parental and children need to help with how to recuperate at a time they are facing social isolation. The decision to send children to schools must be left with parents”, said Dr. Vishal of the committee.
