Bangalore: Anjuman-e-Islam, an Islamic organization based in Karnataka, says it has filed a contempt case in the Karnataka High Court against the commissioner of Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation for allowing Ganesh Chaturthi festival at Idgah ground in Hubballi district of the state. Let us tell you that the Islamic organization said this at a time when the Karnataka High Court itself had given permission for the festival.
Anjuman-e-Islam vice-president Altaf Nawaz has said that the Muslim group will take the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation commissioner to court for contempt. He said, 'We will move the High Court for a direction to ban the religious activities of other communities in the Idgah ground.' The Supreme Court has given the Idgah ground to our organization for a lease of 999 years.
Altaf Nawaz further said 'If any other community uses this land for religious purposes, it will amount to contempt of court. We are not against celebrations of other religious communities, but the three-day Ganesh festival at Idgah ground has really bothered us. The Ganesh idol was installed by Hindus at the Idgah ground in Hubli on August 31 after the Karnataka High Court granted permission. After that Ganesh Utsav was celebrated at Idgah ground.'
