BELAGAVI: Under the 'Belaku' scheme, almost 1,44,000 dwellings have been connected to the power grid, Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Tuesday after launching the 'State Level Belaku Programme' in the Dastikoppa village of Belagavi district.

"The state government is connecting poor people's homes and farmers' pump sets to the power grid. In the state, it provides single phase power 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and three phase power for seven hours. The government has agreed to convert Hubballi Electric Supply Company's debt load of Rs 1900 crore into government share capital and will use a Rs 1500 crore central grant to revitalise the company "he stated

The Chief Minister reaffirmed his government's commitment to the development of northern Karnataka in its entirety.

According to Bommai, the state cabinet has decided to place monuments of Kitturu Rani Chennamma and Sangolli Rayanna in the Suvarna Soudha grounds.

The cabinet has also approved the Rs 898 crore Dharawad-Belagavi via Kitturu railway line project. It would provide a significant boost to the region's infrastructure development, he said.
