BANGALORE: With the Assembly elections upcoming, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka is all set to pursue aggressive 'Hindutva' agenda in the state.
The saffron party is heavily relying on the polarisation of the majority Hindu votes in the state, riding high on the success of the "Janaspandana" event to mark the end of three years of BJP government rule in the state.
In addition to having the Anti-Conversion Bill passed in the state legislature during the current monsoon session, it will also provide specific training to police sub-inspectors on the Cow Slaughter Bill.
According to BJP sources, the party has made the decision to aggressively advance the "Hindutva" agenda in the state, refuting the argument made by Congress leaders and progressive thinkers that the Hindutva agenda can never succeed in Karnataka. The source said, In the Ministry of Animal Husbandry, it has also set its sights on putting into effect the Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Statute, 2020, also known as the anti-cow slaughter act in the state.
To close the gaps in the prosecution of the case's accused, police personnel with the rank of sub-inspector will receive specialised training.
Despite the fact that the act has been put into effect and that lawsuits have been filed all over the state regarding the illegal transportation and slaughter of cows, the accused and owners of slaughterhouses continue to evade the law. Sources claim that this is taking place since the bill's requirements are not being followed.
It has also been agreed to provide all PSIs with specialised training at the district level so they can properly utilise act provisions when filing an FIR.
Prabhu Chauhan, the minister of animal husbandry, said that when the charge-sheet stage arrived, his government will monitor the development of the names of the offenders being removed from the FIR. He insisted that his government will take steps to ensure that police officers were aware of the development.
Praveen Kumar Nettare, a member of the BJP Yuva Morcha, and the recently assassinated Bajrang Dal leader Harsha from Shivamogga were at the forefront of the protest against the illegal transportation and slaughter of cows.
The state's ruling BJP is taking flak for inciting cow vigilantism, particularly in the coastal Karnataka region.
