Bangalore: Former CM Jagadish Shettar, who quit the BJP and joined the Congress, was seen welcoming Rahul Gandhi at the Hubli airport on Sunday. Pictures of the meeting of both the leaders have appeared in the media, in which Shettar is seen warmly welcoming Rahul Gandhi along with some Congress leaders. Rahul Gandhi reached Kudalsangam Maidan of Bagalkot via helicopter from here.

Actually, Rahul Gandhi has reached Hubli today to intensify the election campaign of Congress, where he is going to do a roadshow. Rahul Gandhi will attend the Basava Jayanti celebrations and this is being seen as an attempt to increase the reach of the Congress to the Lingayat community. During his Karnataka tour, Rahul Gandhi will also visit Bagalkot and Vijaypur districts and will also participate in some programs. 

Earlier, on joining Congress, Jagadish Shettar had said that I am not hungry for power, I only want respect. He said that the BJP has insulted me by not giving ticket in the upcoming assembly elections. I am not an ambitious person nor am I hungry for power. Let us tell you that Shettar is currently contesting from Hubli Dharwad on a Congress ticket. Shettar said that some people have captured the entire party. On the possibility of returning to the BJP, Shettar said if the BJP wins the elections next month, he will sit with Congress leaders in the opposition.
