BENGALURU: Paying tribute to the martyred soldiers on the eighth anniversary of the victory over Pakistan in the Kargil war, Karnataka CM BS Yeddyurappa on Sunday said that his government will always protect the soldiers and families of martyrs while protecting India along the border". He further said, "The government is always committed to the welfare of the soldiers. Karnataka has created a separate department for the welfare of soldiers and their families. We are always standing with the families of the martyred soldiers. "

He addressed the soldiers after paying tribute to the martyrs of Kargil War at an event organized by the Department of Military Welfare and Rehabilitation inside the home department of the state on the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas at the National Military Memorial Park in the city.

CM Yeddyurappa has described Kargil Vijay Diwas as a symbol of bravery and sacrifice of the country. Kargil Victory Diwas is celebrated every year on 26 July 1999 to commemorate the recapture of the Indian territory by the Pakistani forces from the Kargil area. He further said "The state government will provide appropriate financial help to the families and soldiers of the soldiers who were martyred in the Kargil war. CM said, “The sacrifice of our soldiers will always be in our memory. The heroic tale of 527 soldiers who sacrificed their lives to protect India is a source of inspiration for our youth. "
