Meanwhile, cases of coronavirus are on the rise in some cities of Karnataka. The situation in the state is critical at present. In view of this, the Karnataka government has issued an order banning all Muharram processions till August 20. The state government has also ordered a ban on large scale crowds of social, political, religious, and cultural persons.
As per the order of the same State Government, all types of processions have been banned from 12th August to 20th August. Alam/Panja and Tazia can now be seen only from a distance. It is necessary to wear masks in prayer rooms. Prayers in all mosques should be accompanied by corona protocol. Except for the mosque on the occasion of Muharram, mass prayer meetings are not allowed in community halls, open grounds, wedding palaces, etc.
Many festivals including Muharram, Krishna Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, and Durga Puja are celebrated between August and October. The government has directed the district authorities to decide to impose restrictions at the local level during the festival days. In a new set of guidelines, the state government said that public gatherings will not be allowed at any festival or mass event in the state during the festival season. As per the order, no ceremony should be held in the cemetery. People below 10 years of age and above 60 years should offer prayers at their homes. Similar restrictions have been imposed for Ganesh Chaturthi. The state government has banned the installation of pandals for the Ganesh Chaturthi festival.
