Karnataka govt approves 2 drinking water projects costing Rs 825 cr

Bengaluru: The Cabinet  of Karnataka has  authorised two major drinking water projects worth Rs 825 crores in Ramanagara and Magadi taluks of Ramanagara district to offer pure drinking water to families via taps. 344 habitats in Ramanagara taluk and 697 habitats in Magadi taluk are expected to benefit from the developments.

After the meeting, Dr. CN Ashwatha Narayana, Ramanagara's District In-Charge Minister, told the reporters that the Jal Jeevan Mission projects would give clean drinking water to 3,65,000 people in the two taluks.

"The first project, the Manchabele reservoir, will cost Rs. 670 crores to complete, while the second project, which will provide water from the YG Gudda reservoir, will cost Rs. 155 crores. The Manchanabele project covers 625 habitats in Magadi taluk and 250 habitats in Ramanagara taluk, whereas the YG Gudda project covers 94 Ramanagara taluk habitats and 72 Magadi taluk habitats "Narayana clarified.

In total, 39,816 houses in Ramanagara taluk and 47,283 households in Magadi taluk are served by these programmes. "The Manchanbele project will take 23 months to complete, while the YG Gudda project will take 15 months. The initiatives are being implemented with the demands of the future in mind, based on forecasts for the year 2053 " he said.
