Mumbai: Several parts of Mumbai experienced the first pre-monsoon showers of the season on Wednesday morning, bringing relief to residents from the scorching heat and humidity. According to civic officials, neighborhoods including Dadar, Kandivali, Magathane, Oshiwara, Wadala, and Ghatkopar received rainfall ranging from 4 mm to 26 mm between 7 am and 8 am. Additionally, light rain was observed in certain parts of central and south Mumbai.

Earlier forecasts from Skymet indicated, "#Monsoon is likely to advance further over the #Konkan region. It is expected to make a timely onset over #Mumbai. The financial capital is likely to have pre-monsoon showers, light to moderate intensity, over the next 3-4 days."

Typically, the monsoon season in Mumbai begins in the second week of June. However, last month, the city experienced unseasonal rain accompanied by strong winds, resulting in the collapse of a hoarding in the Ghatkopar area that caused several fatalities.

It was predicted yesterday that over the next three to four days, Mumbai can expect a hazy sky and moderate sea breeze, thanks to gentle westerly winds blowing over the Arabian Sea near the city. Cloud cover will help keep temperatures in check and might even bring some light rain. Passing rains are expected intermittently until midweek.

Looking ahead to June 7, a cyclonic circulation is forecasted to form in the Arabian Sea off the Konkan Coast. While it will impact a limited area, Mumbai is likely to experience regular pre-monsoon showers from June 7 to June 10.
